Editors Choice - Woodbridge on the Derwent

Convict built in 1825 as a luxurious gentleman's residence, Woodbridge on the Derwent is a unique blend of convict authenticity and contemporary elegance. Woodbridge on the Derwent is a grand three-level Georgian mansion on the banks of the Derwent River. It is located in the historic town of New Norfolk, approximately 25 minutes from Hobart and 40 minutes from the Airport.

The building is newly restored to the original floor plan. It contains nine unique and luxurious suites, each named after a person of significance in the building’s history, or after an architectural feature. All suites have spectacular river views, unique commissioned art works, lounge suites, tea and coffee making facilities, mini-bar, television and DVD player.

Guests also have access to the Reading Room, the Ballroom, the Breakfast Room, and the Recreation Room.

The Reading Room, located in the central tower, has an open fireplace and is furnished with sumptuous Italian designed lounges. It is equipped with a CD player and holds a collection of antique books, a CD collection, the DVD library, and a selection of contemporary books and magazines. It has spectacular river views, which can be enhanced with aid of an antique telescope.

The Ballroom, which can be used for receptions, small conferences and intimate group gatherings, has a separate entry and connects to the Breakfast Room and kitchen for catering purposes. It has an open fireplace and is furnished with Italian designed lounges. It is equipped with a large screen television, DVD player, and a variety of board games. The premises are licensed and a bar is available.

The Breakfast Room with its open fireplace is the setting for gourmet breakfasts featuring local and Tasmanian produce.

The Recreation Room is located away from the main building. It is equipped with a small spa, sauna, mini gym and a massage room. Guest laundry facilities are also available in this building.

Paths lead from the main building down through the gardens to the river foreshore which has extensive river walks. A river landing is being constructed and river cruises on the Derwent aboard the MV Wobetoft are available.

Packages, including individually guided four-wheel drive tours of the Styx Tall Trees forest, and nocturnal tours of Something Wild wildlife sanctuary, can be arranged. Woodbridge has ample off-street illuminated parking.
