Search Engine Paranoia Isn't A Good Thing

The internet is a very powerful medium to get your business off the ground. We know – after only 2 months of operation we are finding that the majority of our bookings are coming from the Internet.

Mikes Tip #1! Don’t get paranoid about Search Engines. Yes it is great if you can get to the top of the search in Google, but treat this as ‘part’ of your internet marketing campaign and not the ‘be all and end all’. Be very wary of organisations that claim they can get you to the top of Google. Google recently changed their listing criteria – worked great for one business, but disastrous for another. Remember, you have NO control over this.

As an alternative think of those businesses in your area that 'complement' what you have to offer. Listing on Derek's Finance site is probably not very good for a B&B, however listing on the Australia Zoo site has done us the world of good. We get regular enquiries and are learning how to achieve a better conversion rate on these enquiries each day.

Once you have listed on other peoples sites SUBMIT these to Google. For instance we list on a friends site in the UK - Ian Harrop, I have submitted the page that we are on to the Google search engine.

Don't get too hung up attempting to get to the top of Google - and remember the SECOND most clicked link in Google is the link at the bottom. Think how many times you have been dissatisfied with the listings at the top and scroll all the way to the bottom of the list and work your way upwards!

Keep lateral!
