Review Elm Cottage
Overview Three private and self-contained 4 1/2 star cottages, each overlooking the Goobarragandra River make Elm Cottage a magical choice. Whether you’re looking for a romantic escape, or an extended family getaway, this property takes you away from the city and helps you to slow down, relax and enjoy nature at its own pace..
Set on a working farm, Elm Cottage is not a farmstay, but it certainly helps to connect you with nature. The hosts are attentive but not intrusive and have thought of everything to make your stay one to remember.
Overall rating: Outstanding!
What makes Elm Cottage different?
Each cottage has views over a different section of the Goobarragandra River, which winds its way for 2 miles through Elm Cottage. Listen to the soothing sound of trickling water, or watch the breeze as it rustles through the trees as you have pre-dinner nibbles on the verandah.
All cottages are beautifully appointed with large covered decks overlooking the river and vast expanses of countryside beyond. Watch the wonderful sunsets, see the sheep go by, stroll down to the river for a swim, a picnic, to try your hand at fishing, or even try your luck in a canoe when the river is up. Elm Cottage is a wonderful place to see the real Australia!

Location/How to Get there 4 hours from Sydney, 2.5 hours from Canberra, 1.5 from Wagga Wagga, or 1 hour 40 minutes from Canberra via the Brindabella Road. Located 14 kilometres from the township of Tumut, Elm Cottage is a good meeting point for families from Sydney, Canberra and Melbourne.
Head along the Hume Highway to Gundagai (or over the Brindabella Road from Canberra) and follow the signs to Tumut. From Tumut, head towards Cooma on the Snowy Mountains Highway and take a left turn into Tumut Plains Road, cross a number of one-lane bridges (including a heritage bridge) and then take a left into Little River Road. Follow this along for approx 7 kms until you go down a steep hill, you’ll see a sign for Elm Cottage on your right, and just keep following the signs. Don’t forget to shut any gates that are shut and if they are open, leave them that way!
