Limestone Coast information
The Limestone Coast is halfway between Adelaide and Melbourne and is named in honour of the bedrock that provides a natural filter for its vineyards. Starting where the Murray River system ends, at the beaches of the Coorong National Park the Limestone Coast region sweeps down the coast to the Victorian border, and stretches inland to the Coonawarra wine region and the rich farmlands around Millicent and Naracoorte.
The limestone foundation is responsible for many of the region's World-Heritage listed caves and wetlands of international importance as well as the unique terra-rossa soil of the Coonawarra, which produces some of the world's best red wines.
Explore the richness of its secrets, whether walking, caving, snorkelling or diving - or stay above the surface and visit the inland lakes and sweeping heathlands which provide a refuge for huge numbers of birds.
