Tidy Towns

1. Who is Keep Australia Beautiful?

Since 1966 Keep Australia Beautiful has been encouraging people all around Australia to care for their local environment. Through awards programs such as Tidy Towns, Sustainable Cities and the Clean Beach Challenge, local communities are recognised for their achievements.

Assistance is provided to schools to help young people understand litter reduction and recycling. We also work with the construction industry to reduce erosion and storm water pollution and with retailers to reduce single use plastic bags.

These are just some of our activities that involve up to 3 million Australians each year. To learn more, to get involved and to contact your local Keep Australia Beautiful office go to www.kab.org.au

2. What are the Tidy Towns Awards?

The Tidy Towns Awards are the flagship program of the Keep Australia Beautiful network of state, territory and national offices and have a large and loyal supporter base, especially in rural and regional areas.

The program started with a focus on litter and civic pride which has since expanded to include a range of issues of interest to sustainable communities.

Each year the Tidy Towns program commences with regional and state awards. State winners are then visited by the national Tidy Towns judge in order to select Australia's Tidiest Town and category winners.

In total the program involves over 1,000 communities and over 90,000 volunteers around the country.

The national awards, now known as the Australian Tidy Towns - Sustainable Communities Awards are sponsored by Hungry Jack's.
