Darwin, Northern Territory

Delightful Destinations – Darwin, NT

Darwin has much to show you.....its Chinese history, the bombing of Darwin in WW2, wonderful art galleries and museums, you can even feed the fish! Darwin city this is where most of the entertainment activity takes place. There are many theme bars and dozens of restaurants catering for all tastes, from the budget cafes up to silver service. The trendy Cullen Bay Marina, close to the city, also has many restaurants, some right on the boardwalk as does the Darwin Wharf Precinct.

Just out of Darwin there is the Crocodile Farm, Litchfield National Park, the Territory Wildlife Park, Fogg Dam, a birdwatchers paradise and several river cruises you can take to see the jumping crocodiles. Further out, about 3 hours by road is the world heritage listed Kakadu National Park and the magnificent Katherine Gorge.

Holmes Jungle Nature Reserve, great for bird watching and the educational Crocodylus Park is home to a number of rare animals.

Weather wise, Darwin has only two seasons, the wet (October - April) and the popular dry (May - September), both are enjoyable. The dry, with its clear blue skies and comfortable temperatures, can get cool at night though when it can drop down to 15 degrees. The wet with its spectacular electrical storms is also a great time to go there, although the humidity can get a little uncomfortable.

Getting to Darwin has never been easier, both Qantas and Virgin fly into the city's modern International Airport, 14 kilometres from the city, from all Australian capitals, a major bus company provides daily services and of course the Ghan train from Adelaide weekly. During the dry the Ghan arrives in Darwin twice a week.
