Career Mums
CareerMums.com.au – One solution to the skills shortage at your fingertips
CareerMums.com.au is the first national job classifieds website to tap into a niche group of resourceful and experienced women who are mums. The purpose of CareerMums is to connect skilled mums to employers who understand the balance of work and family.
This website targets recruitment firms and start-up businesses through to large corporates to list their job share, contract, part time or full time roles with us. Use CareerMums to find the right person, or use CareerMums as part of the search process to widen your talent pool. When a job is advertised, we offer employers the ability to promote their family friendly benefits. All job postings have easy indicators for flexible hours, telecommuting, childcare facilities and other helpful points of difference.
Why CareerMums www.careermums.com.au was a product of being passionate about women’s issues, and having a strong desire to start my own business. I saw an opportunity to create a channel between mums and employers. A perfect trade-off exists for the taking: experience, expertise and maturity in exchange for flexible jobs.
There has been huge investment in women’s education in the last 20 years. Girls have a higher retention rate in year 12, and females now represent around 50% of all higher education students and equivalent TAFE courses and training. Importantly, women now account for just under half of Australia’s labour force. The challenge for women is combining work and family because women are still predominantly the primary carers of children.
With the current skills shortage and a large percentage of baby boomers soon to leave the workforce, more and more businesses are making long overdue changes to their employment policies to reflect a work and family balance. If you can’t necessarily provide a flexible role, just being a family-friendly employer will allow you to access incredible talent.
Rethinking your employment opportunities Employers are being encouraged to challenge the way they think about employment opportunities. Consider the following scenarios if you are thinking about employing someone:
Scenario 1 – Budget limitations but experience and expertise required You have budget for another employee. The amount you have to spend equates to hiring someone in a junior position. Why not consider a career mum on a part-time basis? Employ skill, expertise and life experience instead.
Scenario 2 – New/small business, limited funds, dreaming of a responsible and dedicated resource Starting a new business? Can’t afford a full-time employee? Consider a career mum for part-time work. As your business grows over time, so does her knowledge of the business and her ability to commit more hours.
Scenario 3 – Can adjust standard working hours to get the right person Are you tied to standard working hours? Is 8am-4pm or 10am-6pm really different from 9am-5pm? Flexible working hours can help the home front run more smoothly. And deliver to you more stress-free employees.
Scenario 4 – Position must be full-time but role can accommodate working from home arrangements from time-to-time Does your full-time role offer the ability to telecommute 1-2 days each week? Working from home can enhance productivity without the distraction of workplace banter and usual disruptions. And provide flexible working hours on these days for the career mum. A win-win.
List your jobs with CareerMums now While this service builds momentum, we are offering complimentary job listings. There is nothing to lose and great employees to gain.
