LocalityYork is the ideal base from which to explore the Avon Valley and surrounding country towns. Sky-diving is a must in York, while Beverley provides gliding and the Avondale Discovery Farm. Northam is the hot-air ballooning centre and Cunderdin boasts a fascinating Museum. It also features displays of the results of the devastating earthquake in Meckering in 1968.
Stop-over in York en route to the famous Wave Rock in Hyden or further to the coastal cities of Albany and Esperance. While away an hour or so admiring wonderful furniture handcrafted from native West Australian timbers or trace our local history at the Residency Museum. Property"Hillside" is a wonderfully historic Federation house built in 1911 and designed by the renowned architect, Sir Talbot Hobbs. It was built for Morris Edwards on the occasion of his marriage and in its heyday welcomed many distinguished visitors.
It formed part of the estate of the pioneering Edwards family who farmed its 1700 acres and also owned the General Store in the main street. The family resided at "Hillside" and its neighbouring property "Hartleap", for over a hundred years.
Today, "Hillside" offers visitors an opportunity to step back in time with its fascinating variety of old farming machinery that line the long driveway and its many reminders of a by-gone era. AssociationsRac, Farmstay Association,AAA Tourism, York Visitor Centre, Tourism Western Australia
