Wartook Valley

The Wartook Valley is one of the Grampians secret places. Nestling under Mt Difficult is the gateway to some magical places, first explored by Koorie people.

It is exciting to explore and come across a series of scar trees and shelter trees near evidence of quarries used for hundreds of years.

Dramatic rocks and cliffs abound sometimes with rock painting from long ago.

Evidence of gold and copper mining exists in this area from the 1850's and can be safely explored.

Beautiful flowers and plants have made amazing adaptations in the Grampians from when the area was a giant island in an inland sea.

Four wheel Drivers are well catered for in historic and spectacular tracks crossing the ranges. Not for the faint hearted.

Fisher folk enjoy Wartook Reservoir and the McKenzie River and Weir nearby.

Come and share the mystery of such a special place.

Wartook Rise Property

Our mud brick cabins and lodge are hand built and have the natural climatic advantages of solid thick walls and high ceilings and fans. Being cool in summer and warm in winter. The design copies an old colonial one from McArthur's Homestead in Camden NSW, and has been built locally at Zumstein's in 1920 in pise. Built in 1990, these cabins and lodge have excellent cooking facilities, efficient log fires and modern comforts.

The property is over 300 acres, with a high ridge, back valley and plain. Roads and tracks traverse it, for hikers, learner drivers, bike riders, and travellers to explore.

In places you can see views across the plains for over 75 kilometers, lending a sense of perspective to this immense ancient landscape.

Guest wander off to photograph, picnic and explore this beautiful area, shared with local fauna and flora.
