Locality

Wagait Beach is located on the western entrance to the Darwin Harbour. A regular ferry service leaves from Cullen Bay and takes approximately 15 minutes for the crossing to the Mandorah Jetty. For information on the ferry service visit www.seacat.com.au . Bookings can be made for the local mini-bus service to make pick-ups and drop-offs at the jetty.

By road Wagait Beach is 128km from Darwin – 80km from the Stuart Highway. The scenic and leisurely drive through Berry Springs takes you past a number of tourist attractions. Follow the signs to Wagait Beach. Driving is recommended if you wish to explore the area or if you are bringing heavy luggage. On low tide the jetty can be a high climb and a long walk.

What is there to do when you get here? Do nothing – just unwind and relax or read book; sit in the spa and day dream as you look out over the Arafura Sea; walk along the beach and enjoy the peace and tranquillity it offers; explore the foreshore to discover World War II relics; go fishing; cycle around the local area; visit the wetlands to see an abundance of bird life, large magnetic ant hills, and a secluded natural spring hidden in a small rain forest, visit the wreck of ‘Milady’ a B24 Liberator from WWII; explore the many bush tracks in the area some of which can lead you to remote beaches; take photographs, bird watch, meet the locals while enjoying a coffee and cake at the local supermarket café or have a drink at the Cox Peninsula Social Club.

The tiny community of approx. 500 people believe they live in paradise with the best of both worlds – easy access to Darwin for business, work and pleasure and a peaceful, friendly rural atmosphere to live in.
