Cottage, Holiday house
Set on the side of a hill, in the picturesque and historic town of Blackwood, only 1 hour from Melbourne, this cosy cottage is visited by kookaburras, magpies, sulfur crested cockatoos, apostle birds and the occasional black cockatoo. There are original miners' log cabins in the main street which has barely changed since the late 1800's. As one guest said "How's the serenity"
Thanks for a very enjoyable stay over the eater weekend. The Carrigs
Cute, cosy, comfortable and charming and clean. Enjoyed our stay and liked the music, and the fire, Trentham falls, Blackwood pub and walks. Will come back again. Joan and Peter
Cosy retreat and very peaceful setting. May come back again when in vic again. Thank you Ann and Sandy
Perfect weekend getaway! Enjoyed every moment of our stay and will be back! Jarrod and Justine
Nice place to stay in for our visit to blackwood.
Locality
The historic township of Blackwood is surrounded by spectacular forest full of memories of the gold rush era. it is one of Victoria's best kept secrets. Located in the main street is the Blackwood Hotel, est 1868, is the oldest weatherboard hotel with a continuous licence. There is also the general store with wonderful food, coffee and views. Further along the street are original log cabins built by miners. A photo in the hotel depicts the main street in the late 1800's and the street has is almost the same today. There are two different mineral springs down by the river. In a 10 min trip to Trentham you can visit waterfalls, a historic railway station, historic buildings, a wonderfull home decor shop and a dress shop with original designs and hand made materials. Another 20 or so kilometers there is Daylesford and Hepburn Springs with many attactions, restaurants, cafes and wineries, far too many to list here. If you haven't discovered Blackwood yet, it is time to add it to your experiences.
