Bed & Breakfast

Set in lush gardens with views of Najanuga (Little Dromedary) and Gulaga (Mt Dromedary) there are three large bedrooms with ensuite/private bathrooms, quality bed linen and furnishings. Gourmet breakfast is included in the tariff.
Other features include guest sitting room, verandah dining area plus a small private dining room and dinner by arrangement. The building itself has an appealing history - built as the Tilba Temperance Hall in 1879, converted to a family home in the 1920's, set up as Bed and Breakfast accommodation in the 1990's.

Probably the nicest place we've ever been to - Philip and Stuart your hospitality is second to none. The ambience, which includes the wonderful music, fireplace and breakfast and dinner settings is superb. Thank you very much for making our stay here so relaxed and memorable.

Locality

The Tilba area is a popular destination for many reasons – its natural beauty has been described as tolkinesque with large rocky outcrops; the Tilba Valley sits below imposing Gulaga, a mountain which has spiritual significance for the local Yuin people and also for many white people; there is an irresistible combination of mountains and pristine ocean beaches, wild headlands and rocky coves and large coastal lakes such as Wallaga and Corunna; both Tilba villages are heritage listed - Central Tilba has many specialty shops plus the Cheese Factory, Tilba Tilba has the Foxglove Spire Gardens complex with café, collectible and homeware shops and an excellent nursery plus the beautiful gardens; attractions in the immediate area include Umbarra Aboriginal Cultural Centre which does tours of Gulaga, the Tilba Valley Winery, and Jingarra Horseriding; natural activities include bushwalking, fishing; there are many National Parks such as Gulaga, Eurobodalla and Montague Island; Narooma and Bermagui are about 20 minutes drive away.

GreenGables is an old timber building (circa 1879), operating as a B&B since 1990. In the 6 years that we have been here we have gradually made it more eco-friendly. We now have the following - rain water collection for vegetable garden irrigation, recycling of all household refuse (Council collection, worm farm, compost), low energy lighting, flow flow shower heads, gas boosted solar hotwater, 1.5kW back to the grid PV panels, grey water recycling system for all bathrooms and laundry, chemical free vegetable garden, use of local and organic produce/products whereever possible. We are active in the local Transition Towns group which started a weekly Growers Market, and members of Business Treading Lightly which looks at ways that businesses can reduce energy use and be more sustainable. We also promote what we what we offer to our guests and will shortly be updating our website to reflect the above.
