Explore Tasmania's spectacular East Coast from this idyllic base in Swansea
3 guest comments - average rating is: 5 out of 5
We are delighted that the authors of the 2008 Lonely Planet guide to Tasmania chose to highlight our property as 'our pick' and '... one ... where the breakfasts are divine'.
So, come and explore Tasmania's spectacular East Coast from this idyllic base in our luxurious stuccoed Victorian Georgian heritage home set on 9 acres in the historic township of Swansea.
Relax in a peaceful and private setting comfortably furnished throughout with antiques.
Enjoy a hearty breakfast in our cosy howff as you plan your daily activities exploring this special part of the coast.
The luxurious accommodation, with separate private entry, is ideally suited for two couples, or four adults travelling together.
Tarrifs, including breakfast, are based on numbers in the party, i.e. single or double room occupancy with a maximum of 4 adults per night. Single and double room bookings welcome. Please ring to clarify your requirements.
Attractions and activities vary from Freycinet National Park at Coles Bay, the berry farm, bark mill and vineyards to secluded beaches, golf, tennis, fishing, cruises, kayaking, scenic flights and unforgettable walks through national parks. Restaurants, coffee and craft shops are nearby together with other amenities.
All rooms in our 1880s random bluestone cottage have panoramic views over extensive gardens (surrounded by dry stone walls and featuring a Celtic rose bed) to Great Oyster Bay and the dramatic Hazards at Freycinet with Wineglass Bay just beyond.
Step back in time at Abbotsford and enjoy some old fashioned hospitality - with a touch of Celtic spirit, including complimentary home made Scottish shortbread.

"Even though we arrived before our ETA we were greeted with a smile and a "you should never just drive past" from our hostess. True Scottish hospitality transplanted into the beautiful surrounds of Swansea. Abbotsford B&B was a lovely place to stay.
2008 Lonely Planet guide to Tasmania highlights Abbotsford as 'our pick' and '... one of the nicest places to stay in Swansea'.
'... a wonderful stay here at Abbotsford and the wee bit extra that may us feel so genuinely welcome'
'We were lucky to find Abbotsford in this beautiful area .. hospitality ten out of ten .. great breakfast in a wonderful home'
'So cosy and exactly what we were looking for .. magic atmosphere .. this has inspired us to enjoy the simple things in life...'
LocalityThe east coast of Tasmania, is a spectacular 252 kilometre coastal journey from the Bay of Fires, north of St Helens, to the spectacular Freycinet Peninsula, to historical Maria Island in the south. The journey is along one of Australia's most magnificent coastal stretches and is easily accessible from both Hobart and Launceston.
See pristine, sandy beaches, breathtaking ocean views, rainforest, fossil-filled cliffs, azure waters, pink granite peaks and famous national parks. Savour superb food and delicious wines to tempt any gourmet, and experience an island penal settlement of the 19th century. These are just some of the enticements of the East Coast.
And it's a coast of activities - bushwalking, sea kayaking, nature cruises, diving, penguin and dolphin tours, swimming, surfing, golf, horse riding, great ocean and river fishing, or simply enjoy the wines, the fine foods, the historic displays and buildings, and the wildlife.
Three national parks of the region - Maria Island; Freycinet and Douglas-Apsley - are accessible year round with exhilarating walks, stunning beaches, remarkable flora and fauna just waiting to be explored.
The East Coast is steeped in history with Aboriginal, British, French and Dutch influences. With such natural coastal beauty and an array of experiences, sightseeing and activities, a few days spent on the East Coast will only whet your appetite for more. PropertyOur historic 9 acre property was settled by the Rapp family from Germany in the early 1880s.
The original cottage has been restored to hopefully reflect the ambience and aura of the working farm of yesteryear with original homestead, barn and bakehouse. AssociationsTourism Council Tasmania Accredited Tourism Business Australia.
