'Duck' cottage is a beautifully renovated 2 bedroom 1850's stone cottage on five acres of tree studded land. This unique cottage retains many of its original features including its wonderfully insulating thick stone walls, wide verandah, open fires and its low doorways (adequate at the time for small Cornish folk) .which are what led us to name it 'Duck' cottage. These heritage features are combined with modern amenities, comfortable beds, new bathroom and a fully equipped kitchen with full sized stove, microwave and refrigerator.

Duck cottage is perfect for those wanting absolute privacy in a rural environment within a short drive to the Second Valley Leonard's Mill restaurant, general store, art galley and delightful beach.

Locality

Second Valley is beautiful all year round. It has mild winters and warm dry summers – usually with a cooling evening breeze off the sea.
Spring is lush with birds and flowers in abundance in the Duck Cottage garden. In summer enjoy the beach and all its delights as well as the nearby Deep Creek Conservation Park, the Heysen Trail, Talisker Silver Mine or the unique Raywood Nursery.
Duck cottage only a 15 minute drive to the Kangaroo Island.
Ferry Terminal at Cape Jervis making it an ideal KI stopover.
It is a 5 minute drive south to the Delamere General Store fo supplies and petrol. Alternatively, the towns of Normanville and Yankalilla are about a 15 minute drive back towards Adelaide.

Property

Duck Cottage is hidden from view in the midst of an old garden at the foot of a hillside that we have re-vegetated with native plants. The cottage is sheltered on three sides by a wide verandah, The thick stone walls keep it cool in summer and easily warmed in winter.
Duck Cottage is supplied by rain water and has solar powered assisted mains electricity.
The cottage is furnished in keeping with the era in which it was built but with modern comforts and amenities. There are two bedrooms, one double and the other with twin single beds sleeping up to four people -high quality linen and bedding is provided. The comfortable lounge room features the original enormous open fireplace. The large kitchen / dining room is has all modern facilities as well as the old wood burning stove, which is nice to light in winter for additional ambiance and warmth. The newly renovated bathroom is stylish and there are outdoor settings for garden or verandah meals.

Strictly no pets or smoking are allowed- in order to maintain the cottage as an allergy free space. Also our resident pet sheep ‘Chloe’ who lives in the fenced gully paddock beside the cottage and the local birdlife and kangaroos depend on there being no pets (particularly dogs) on the property.

There is a simple sound system but no TV, Broadband or VCR. Mobile phone reception is also unreliable so the experience of staying at the cottage is superbly quiet, though never boring.
There is a landline phone at the cottage for guest use and emergencies.
