Rockingham is a seaside resort suburb of Perth located on Cockburn Sound just 40 minutes from Perth and 60 minutes from Perth airport.
Despite being a commuter suburb of Perth it has a lovely cosmopolitan village atmosphere and retains a somewhat relaxed beachside character. There is a nearby Naval Facility at Garden Island.
Rockingham's slogan is 'Your Aquatic Playground', --- you can enjoy snorkeling, sailing, swimming at the pristine beaches, fishing and crabbing in Cockburn Sound. The beach nearby is very safe for children.
One attraction is taking the ferry out to nearby Penguin Island to see the gorgeous fairy penguins close up; then visit the visitor centre to gain an understanding of the diminutive birds.
Rockingham has ample shops for shopping enthusiasts, plenty of restaurants and cafes in the cappuccino strip and a collection of pubs nearby.
The City of Rockingham has just won the title of Western Australia's cleanest beach for 2010. Winning the WA Clean Beach Awards will automatically place Rockingham Beach into the Australian Clean Beach Awards which will be announced in March next year
