CSIRO AUSTRALIA TELESCOPE

The Australia Telescope Compact Array (ATCA), at the Narrabri Observatory, is an array of six 22 metre dish antennas used for radio astronomy. It is located 19km west of the Kaputar Motel - Narrabri.


MT. KAPUTAR NATIONAL PARK

Mount Kaputar National Park is located on 36,817 hectares and is 50 kilometres east of Narrabri and 570 kilometres north west of Sydney. Mount Kaputar National Park consists of a gathering of sharp peaks and rocky ranges, the remnants of an 17 million year old volcano. Mount Kaputar at 1542 metres, is outside the great dividing range, Australia's highest peak. From the summit it is possible to take in 360 degree views encompassing one tenth of NSW.

An award winning, entertaining exhibition centre showcasing the
Australian Cotton Industry. Fun for the whole family. There is a modest entry fee to enter the exhibit section which includes a 3D theaterette and nine interactive exhibits but entry to the gift shop, which stocks 100% Australian cotton products is free.

NARRABRI OLD GAOL & MUSEUM

Narrabri's old gaol is part of an impressive complex of colonial government buildings which also includes the office of the court of petty sessions and
the court house.

The architect for this complex, James Barnet, also designed the Sydney General Post Office. The gaol opened in September 1882 and operated as such for exactly 100 years. It now provides an interesting insight to how things were in the past.

SAWN ROCKS - KAPUTAR NATIONAL PARK

Sawn Rocks is a 40 metre basalt cliff face featuring perpendicular-octagonal shaped rocks, resembling a giant series of organ pipes.

Over thousands of years, some of the enormous slabs of rock have fallen to the bed of Bobiwaa Creek below, resembling the crumbled pillars of an ancient or roman temple.

Kaputar Motel is situated on the southern side of Narrabri. A relaxing Saltwater Pool awaits those tired muscles after a long drive.
