Come and relax, escape from the city pressure in "your" country home in the spectacular rural setting of Old Bara. Surrounded by wildlife & exquisite bird life. Walk to your hearts content, take a picnic or just relax and unwind whilst enjoying the peace and tranquillity of the Australian bush.

Great tracks for mountain bike riding, many fabulous views.

The ideal place for an intimate and private country escape or just a great place to spend time with friends and family.

Old Bara guest house is a charming 4 bedroom house, circa 1920s, which comfortably sleeps up to 8 people,

Only 25mins drive to the stunning town of Mudgee, close to Mudgee wineries & the historic town of Rylstone.

Old Bara is in NSW explorer country, only 20 mins drive to Mudgee, 25 mins to Rylstone. 15 mins drive to the Louee bike track.
Only 3.5hrs drive from Sydney.
Close to Mudgee wineries, fishing, great restaurants, all that Mudgee can offer, with the added bonus of living in the peaceful country away from the crowds.

There is an abundance of bird life in the guesthouse private garden and all over the property which contains many different species of trees hence a great variety of different bird species. We provide bird books and pamphlets. We advise bird watchers to bring their own binoculars.

Old Bara is a great place for all aged kids, the garden is large enough to set up a game of cricket, or football. We provide a set of boules and plastic cricket bat and a frisbee! The property is a great place for adventure and education for kids, we have 100s of kangaroos, some wombats and the occasional echidna. We have great tracks for those children old enough to ride bikes, we have a great picnic spot with a permanent large wooden table and benches for our guests to use.

Farmland Experiences

Farm animals live on the property, Cattle, Horses, Dogs, Guests able to interact with the farm animals, Working farm with some limits on guest access to animals.

Our guests are welcome to watch us work with cattle in the paddocks or yards. There is of course a safety issue, so there cannot be any "hands on" activities. If our guests bring their dogs with them, we do ask that they respect the areas where we have cattle grazing.

Our property is open to all guests, we welcome our guests regardless of their preferences. We provide a wonderful very private guesthouse set in its own established private gardens. No neighbours in sight!

Pet friendly

Small dogs (less than 11 kg) are permitted, Medium dogs (11 kg to less than 34 kg) are permitted, Large dogs (34 kg or heavier) are permitted, Pets are permitted inside, Secure, fully fenced running area, Other domesticated animals reside at the property.

Dogs are allowed in the house but not in the main bedrooms, only the single bedroom that leads onto the laundry.
The garden fence is not 100% dog proof, but we have a very secure dog kennel and run area for guests dogs to use. Guests can take their dogs walking on the property but have to take care when we have calves on the ground. Previous guests have left their dogs with ours to play together and they all go on walks together!

Romantic getaway

Wood fire, Private living and recreation areas, Chocolates provided on arrival.

Old Bara is so private and peaceful, just the perfect place for an intimate retreat. The double room has a beautiful old white and brass bed with white valance and curtains hanging from the top, this coupled with the view to the beautiful garden creates a great feel of romance.

Wine Appreciation

Mudgee wineries are within 20 mins drive of Old Bara. We offer all our guests a complimentary bottle of Mudgee wine. We can organise tours of wineries by bus guests can picked up from the property.
