ABOUT MORETON ISLAND
Moreton Island is one of the largest sand islands in the world and forms much of the eastern side of Moreton Bay. Situated 40km's from Brisbane, the island is 38km long, and 9km across at its widest point and covers 185 sq. km.

The island consists entirely of sand apart from a small area of sandstone and rhyolite at Cape Moreton. Several different dune types, of differing ages are recognised by their form and soil development. Mt. Tempest is considered the highest coastal sand dune in the world at 285m.

All the tracks on the island are built for 4WD vehicles only. It is not recommended to bring an All Wheel Drive vehicle across as they are too low for proper clearance of the tracks.

BRINGING A 4WD VEHICLE:
The MiCat vehicle and passenger Ferry from Lytton at the Port of Brisbane to the Tangalooma Wrecks is the only vehicle Ferry operating between Brisbane and Tangalooma so early bookings are essential.

GETTING TO TANGALOOMA WITHOUT A 4WD VEHICLE:
Passenger ferry services depart from Holt Street Wharf in Pinkenba, Brisbane and arrive at the Tangalooma Jetty on Moreton Island. Travelling time is just 75 minutes each way, with 3 services operating daily in each direction and an additional service from Saturday through Monday.
Guests staying in privately rented accommodation will have their luggage delivered to the closet luggage bay for collection.
