Cottage, Holiday house

This comfortble and charming cottage is the ideal place for a family holiday or romantic getaway. This location offers something for everyone. Go wine tasting! Visit caves, wild beaches and national parks and climb a volcano!

Take time to stop at little country towns and meet the locals. Or just curl up in front of the wood fire with one of the hundreds of books from the Stone Walls library.

Small dogs are welcome inside but not in the beds. No smokers inside please and if you do smoke please collect your buts and put them in the bin.

Locality

Stone Walls is located in the township of Rendelsham. It is within easy driving distance of the Coonawarra, Limestone Coast, Mount Benson and Mount Gambier wine districts, Canunda National Park, historic Penola, Robe, Beachport, Mount Gambier, Tantanoola and many stunning beaches and natural features (including the Blue Lake and the World Heritage listed Naracoorte Caves). Nearby Millicent is the place for food and other shopping and has a tourist centre and fabulous playground, skate park and library.

Property

Named for its limestone walls hand built by a local artisan, Stone Walls sits at the foot of a hill on half an acre of its own grounds, backing onto a large area of bushland. This comfortable, welcoming house has three bedrooms, and a pull out double bed in the lounge area, another living area, separate dining room, kitchen and bathroom. Help yourself to produce from the kitchen garden. Care has been taken to be environmentally friendly wherever possible - for example, the house is supplied with rainwater, and most of the painstakingly selected furniture has been pre-loved.

This is a single cottage in a quiet road in a sleepy little township backing onto undeveloped scrub. There are no pubs, shops or businesses to disturb the peace.

Beach

This property has access for four-wheel drive vehicles to Canunda National Park 10km and by road to Southend,10 km, and Beachport 20 km away. There are magnificent beaches suitable for swimming and paddling and surfing.

Birdwatching

Bird-watching available nearby, Information provided on local bird population and sightings.

Local birds are plentiful and a family of blue wrens chirps and plays right outside. An hours drive away is the Bool Lagoon, a world-famous bird sanctuary and bird watching site.

We are 10km from Canunda National Park directly behind the property or through Southend by sealed road. There are several easy entrances to Canunda at Southend.

The cottage backs onto access to mixed vegetation which allows for easy bush walking.

Close to Public Transport

Public transport within 10 minute walk, Bus service.

The state bus company provides travel to and from rendelsham on some days. Do let me know if you need the time table

Eco-friendly

Building designed along eco-lines, Building made from ecologically friendly materials, Bio-cycle or equivalent waste system., Bio-diverse setting, Recycling facilities available.

The cottage is sited with a northerly aspect and a deep eave so that sunlight warms the house in winter but does not directly enter the living rooms in summer. The house collects it's own water and has a septic system to handle waste. The property is maintained as much as possible to ecologically sound standards. Most furnishings and fittings are from recycled sources and there is encouragement to guests to reduce power use by using hot water bottles and knee rugs in winter and a ceiling fan in summer.

Family Friendly

We welcome children as an integral part of any family. There is a solid cot, a sling to attach to a dining chair for very young children to sit up to the table. Older children, with proper caution, can explore outside and the local school grounds and cricket grounds provide a somewhere to run and play.

There are wonderful fishing opportunities from the beach or your boat starting from Southend, a 15 minute trip.

Small dogs (less than 11 kg) are permitted, Food and water bowls provided.

Small dogs are welcome but not to sleep on beds. Unfortunately at the moment there is no securely fenced area so this house is unsuitable for untethered dogs.

A pleasant day's outing to Warrnambool in Victoria allows for easy on-shore whale watching and enjoyable site seeing on the way through Mount Gambier and numerous small places on the way.
