Merrijig is situated at the base of Mount Buller and is approximately 17km from Mansfield. Merrijig is situated in the scenic Great Dividing Range, offering beautiful scenery and a number attractive of picnic areas along the Delatite River which passes through the town on its route between Mount Buller and Lake Eildon. The Hunt Club Hotel was established in Merrijig in 1873 and provides excellent meals at reasonable prices.

Mansfield Shire is renowned for its natural beauty and alpine mountains. Significant landscape features include Mount Buller, Mount Stirling and the Great Dividing Range. Natural environment features include parts of Lake Eildon and Alpine National Parks. Valleys of the Howqua, Delatite and Goulburn Rivers are also significant landscape features in the Shire. The areas are in high demand for recreation and lifestyle activities.

So what is it about this place that brings out the best in people? Well, for a start, its beautiful. rugged mountains, rolling snow plains, rushing rivers, gentle lakes and sweeping grasslands make for an ever changing, ever lovely backdrop.
