The Luxury Cottage (Circa 1912) overlooks the Watagan Mountain range and is backed by forest inhabited by kangaroos, wallabies, possums and an abundance of birdlife. In fact, at Watagan Forest Retreat, the only sound you'll hear is birdsong!

The Retreat is a convenient base to explore the many attractions of the local area. Close to a magnificent 18-hole golf course, the Retreat is just 30 minutes drive to the numerous wineries and restaurants of the Hunter Valley. Not far in the opposite direction, you can take a cruise, swim or fish beautiful Lake Macquarie. Right on our doorstep we have the magnificent Watagan Mountains with some of the best walking tracks Australia-wide. Hike, ride or peacefully wander one of these magnificent trails.

Locally, there is a myriad of arts and craft stores including the renowned “Elephant shop”. The area boasts a number of talented artists offering an array of unique products. Another option is Morisset Mega Markets (open Sat & Sun) – shop till you drop!

The local stables will take riders on bush trails suited to either beginner or experienced rider.

At the retreat, refresh yourself with a swim and then laze in the sun; grab a book and head for the hammock; or spoil yourself with a massage (professional masseuse on call). In the evening sit on the verandah enjoying your complimentary bottle of champagne while taking in the awesome nightsky display. The Martinsville valley is a scenic rural wonderland. Take a picnic and bicycle along winding country tracks skirted by the magnificent mountains taking in the fresh mountain air.
