Holiday house

Positioned just 300m from the food, wine and art shops of Main Street, Maldon, Fairbank offers a queen room with bath, another queen with ensuite suitable for a wheelchair, and twin with central bathroom and spa. There's three outdoor sitting and eating areas, with the covered deck heated and a BBQ close by. There's fully equipped kitchen and diningroom, wide screen television and DVDs, and wifi internet.

Fairbank's front verandah and the deck overlook Mt Alexander to the east; however, try your own 'mountain' Tarrengower, for the world's best sunsets, or Rock of Ages in the adjoining Nuggetys for a picnic looking toward the Grampians. There's Lake Cairn Curran for watersports, or walk across the road for the Victorian Goldfields Railway's steam train rides. Your path crosses the Parks Victoria main Maldon trail.

Try the Penny School for music, food and pentaque, or wander down town to the gourmet delis and buy yourself a feast - if you can make it past the cafes and restaurants.

If it's Maldon, there's a festival on, and everyone's welcoming. So if you can't get a booking at the weekend, try a few days during the week, when you can explore the gold ruins - or just sit listening to the birds and reconnect.

Fairbank is the choice of people with limited mobility - in recent renovations it was designed to be wheelchair accessible. It has an entry ramp, a wetroom instead of an ensuite, Whilkst there are steps up to the front verandah, there are other outdoor areas accessible to a wheelchair, and there is a moveable ramp for the step down to the diningroom from the kitchen. Two bedrooms can be used for wheelchair-bound persons.
