Sleeping 6 comfortably in 3 bedrooms and featuring two bathrooms, well appointed kitchen, comfortable furnishings, A/C, Fans, combustion fire, dishwasher, BBQ, spacious deck and glass sliding doors to maximise the rural views, there is no better place to come home to on your Kangaroo Island holiday.

Take your time exploring this wonderful island and enjoy the atmosphere each night you come home to Cygnet River Retreat.

Cygnet River Retreat is perfect for families of 2 to 6 people (Qu, 2 sgl, dbl), and is recommended for stays of 3 to 7 night stays. A double sofa bed is available in a fourth bedroom for up to two extra people.

Places such as Seal Bay, Emu Bay, Stokes Bay, American River and Penneshaw are in easy reach of Cygnet River, but you will need one whole day to explore the western end - Flinders Chase and Seal Bay. A minimum 3 nights on Kangaroo Island is well advised to enable visitation in all directions and to get a true taste of what this diverse wonderland has that's so unique.

We managed to say hello to the resident koala and all the wonderful birds & animals in the backyard: rosella, galah, sheep & chooks. In short, a fantastic place to unwind & relax.

Only 10 minutes drive to Kingscote's historic Reeves Point where the first settlers' landed and planted the iconic mulberry tree, then into Kingscote for delightful art galleries showcasing fabulous local art and jewellery, shops and fuel stations, and restaurants. And to the beaches: 10km to beautiful Emu Bay family beach where cars can be driven on this vast expanse of beach at a safe speed and where the beach is perfect for chidren to bathe in, and 20km to Stokes Bay where this pristine white beach and safe rock pool (ideal for snorkelling) can be reached by walking through a headland of boulders, 45km to Seal Bay in the south-west and 90km to the koala walk near Hansen Bay, and to the remote Flinders Chase National Park where the stunning and Remarkable Rocks / Admirals Arch are located.

A little closer to home and you are in the centre of the many local producers such as Island Pure sheep dairy, Emu Bay Lavender farm, Cliffords Honey farm, and Emu Ridge Eucalyptus Distillery, Kangaroo Island Spirits and Shoal Bay Winery.

Or take a picnic to "Duck Lagoon" virtually around the corner from Cygnet River, where you may spot an echidna or a koala from this picturesque river spot.

Farmland Experiences

Farm animals live on the property, Sheep, Chickens, Working farm with some limits on guest access to animals.

We have chooks that love to be fed scraps and where you can collect the eggs. We have sheep on our working farm which graze around the property, but without interaction by humans. We have two quite tame calves who may allow to be touched if they are close to the property. Quite often they inquisitively come up close to the property.

Pet friendly

Pets are permitted outside only, Secure, fully fenced running area.

Dogs likely to jump fences and chase the sheep which surround this property are not welcome. Only one animal to a booking and guests to bring own bedding and expect their animal to sleep outside and be tied up during the day when guests go sightseeing.

The scenery is green and the Cygnet River is running. There is an abundance of wildlife in winter and hopefully our winter creek is filled. A cosy fire, fresh clear air, few tourists around, and cheaper accommodation. The perfect time to travel.
