Avalon Retreat is a recently renovated self contained cottage, featuring a private garden with barbeque. The lounge and bedroom have polished wood floors with rugs. A queen size bed looks out through French doors onto the garden.
The living area has a deep lounge for relaxing, reading, listening to music or reading. The private garden includes, barbeque and outdoor table etc. The lounge comes equipped with TV, audio and CD ROM facilities.
Avalon Retreat is cool and quiet in summer and is heated with a gas fire in the lounge and electric heater in the bedroom in winter. There is also an electric blanket on the bed.
There is easy access to all parts of Harrietville with both pub and general store about a two minute walk. The Ovens River runs along the bottom of the Avalon grounds.
The main 1890s building, includes the recently re-opened cafe. The gallery and other facilities, are currently closed
When completed the facilities will include the cafe, a bar, outdoor dining, additional accommodation, gallery, bookshop, meeting rooms and (possibly spa and sauna).

The Harrietville area provides a great variety of activities for all tastes, from the wineries and gourmet food producers, adventure activities, and the ski fields.
Summer is hot and sunny. Autumn is mild and relaxing with famous displays of breathtaking colour drawing visitors from all around the world. Winter brings its own special brand of beauty, with the snow capped peaks of the nearby Mt Buffalo and Mt Hotham.
WINE AND FOOD
There are more than 70 wineries near Bright. There are also a large number of restaurants, gourmet food producers such as Milawa Cheeses, and food and wine festivals.
THE SNOW
Mt Hotham can be reached in about 35-40 minutes and Falls Creek in about an hour. The season is generally open between June and October. Mt Buffalo is just 12 kilometres from Bright. The mountains are ideal for both cross-country and downhill skiing or snowboarding.

Walking and Riding: Out of the ski season wildflowers colour the slopes. During this time the park can be explored by foot or horseback.
Rock Climbing: The granite face of Mount Buffalo provides a spectacular platform for rock climbing and abseiling, with some of the best granite climbing in Australia.
Fishing: The rivers and mountain streams of Victoria's high country offer fishing enthusiasts many opportunities. For easy access, head to the Ovens River between Myrtleford and Harrietville.
Kayaking, Canoeing and rafting: Rivers in the area offer kayaking, canoeing and rafting from beginners to the advanced.
Cycling/Mountain Biking: NE Victoria is one of the most popular road cycling areas in Australia. The area also has mountain biking trails. The Murray to the Mountains rail trail ends in Bright.
Paragliding: The Wandiligong Valley is one of Australia's premier paragliding and hang gliding locations.
