Your hosts, Les & Robyn, invite you to relax in their beautifully appointed quality apartment style accommodation whilst taking in the magnificent views of the river as it winds its way through this tranquil pastoral valley.

Perfect for a romantic escape or a peaceful place to stay whilst on a business trip to Canberra (free wifi included). From a couple of days to a full week or more, you will find "Riverview Homestead" the place to be refreshed and invigorated.

"Riverview Homestead" is the perfect place to wind down and reconnect with the land and nature. You can stroll through our established hazelnut orchard or take a walk along the banks of the river. Our homestead is situated high over the river valley with breathtaking views and a variety of walks.

Enjoy the privacy and exclusive use of two generous sized rooms both at ground level. The modern living area consists of a fully equipped kitchenette,(hot plates, full fridge dishwasher, microwave) sunlit lounge and eating area. Reverse cycle air conditioning/heating is designed to provide a comfortable cosy environment. Your fridge will be stocked with all you need for a hearty cook-your-own breakfast. Please notify in advance of any special dietary needs).

Your adjoining queen sized bedroom and elegantly crafted ensuite offers all the comforts you would expect of quality accommodation. Double doors open to a private covered outdoor sitting area with walled garden.

Wander a few steps from your living room and relax at the tranquil barbeque lookout that takes in the extensive views of the valley and the mighty Murrumbidgee River.

Our hazelnut orchard and farm is an artist's delight with many picturesque rural scenes to tempt brush and pallet.

Within 5 to 15 mins pleasant rural driving are:- Gooromon Ponds Cafe, several local wineries (Brindabella Hills, Pankhurst, Surveyors Hill and Wallaroo Wines and Hall's Crossing Wines) Hall Village, (Post Office, petrol station and Tavern. Discover Cockington Green, George Harcourt Inn and Federation Square with its exclusive boutique shops, restraunts and cafes.

Only 15 to the major shopping centres of Gungahlin or Belconnen with their(Woolworths, Coles, Big W, Best & Less or K Mart(Belconnen).

20 mins drive to Murrumbateman and 40 mins to Yass. Only 20 mins from Canberra with its major tourist attractions - National Museum of Australia, Australian War Memorial, Parliament House and Old Parliament House, National Art Gallery, National Library.

Special features


40 acres of undulating grazing property with 1000 hazelnut trees/bushes planted on the slopes in contourlines. This orchard caters for pick-your-own hazelnuts each February.

Ask Les or Robyn about hazelnuts and they will offer you a complimentary tour and chat,and show you the easiest way to the riverside walks, you may even be tempted to drop a line in!

The ensuite shower is generous to allow easy wheelchair access, has height adjustable shower head and handrail. A wheel chair can fit under the handbasin facility and doorways have ramps available as needed. Direct access to unit which is all on ground level.

Bird-watching available on-site, Binoculars provided, Information provided on local bird population and sightings.

This is a 40ac property with reserve and private access to Murrumbidgee river. Depending on the time of the year you can listen to and watch many varied species of birds. We even have the smaller birds nesting amongst the hazelnut trees.

Bushwalking & wilderness


Canberra has great bushwalking especially at Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve. Riverview Homestead is set in beautiful river valley right on the Murrumbidgee river and offers breathtaking views and riverside walks.

Eco-friendly


Building designed along eco-lines, Bio-diverse setting, Recycling facilities available.

We are installing "grid feed in" solar system, we have solar hot water. We have areas on our 40ac property that are fenced off to regeneration and Heritage Fund restoration has bio diversity as our goal. Our hazelnut farm adds diversity to this tranquil environment. Native animals observed range from wallabies to wombats, platpus to echidna, frogs to fowls. Our domesticated pets include our pup and 2 cats who control all mice. Birdlife is abundant and at the right times you can be assured have a range of birds welcome the day in for you. Platypus have been observed and photographed by guests at Riverview Homestead.

We have an adjoining twin bedroom for children bigger than toddlers/babies with it's own ensuite facilities. Austar TV with min 9 children's channels including Nickeldeon Junior (only for the rainy days). This is a enchanting peaceful place to visit and experience the chooks, horses and hopefully spot the platpus from the riverside. Ping pong table available whilst games room is under construction.

Farmland Experiences


Farm animals live on the property, Chickens, Horses, Dogs, Guests able to interact with the farm animals, Working farm with some limits on guest access to animals.

Naturally caution with interacting with animals is essential, we currently have chooks, a dog and two cats around the house. In the fields are 3 horses who love to be fed carrots, apples or bread. We had sheep until recently and may consider getting some cattle soon. Cattle, sheep and alpacas can be seen in the surounding farms. Wild life is diverse, from wallabies to wombats,frogs to fowl, and even platpus to possums. Birdlife is abundant.

Fishing


Fishing available on-site, Fishing spots available nearby, Located on waterfront, Located less than 5 mins walk to water.

For a quiet spot of river fishing "Riverview Homestead" is fine. However, a lot of carp seem to be caught from the riverbank, although we have reports of local species as well. Most fishermen/women here toss the carp out under our hazelnut trees and release the local species back into the river. At the right time platpus entertain us with appearances.

Heritage Trail

The villiage of Hall has heritage listed buildings and a school museum. Please enquire from hosts the details as the school museum is not open full time.

Hot Air Ballooning

Canberra is a popular spot for hot air ballooning, I am told it is a fantastic experience to float over Parliament House and the beautiful planned bush city capital. Not sure I will ever go up in one though.

Pet friendly


Cats are permitted, Small dogs (less than 11 kg) are permitted, Medium dogs (11 kg to less than 34 kg) are permitted, Large dogs (34 kg or heavier) are permitted, Pets are permitted inside, Secure, fully fenced running area, Other domesticated animals reside at the property.

We have a pet policy that is provided to guests when booking. This is a farm with sheep and lambs nearby therefore pet owners are required to maintain control of their pets. Pets are welcome in the rooms and for walks with owners both to and along the riverside. We find that most pet owners treat their pets as part of their family and such really love and care for their pets. We have a fenced area with kennel which is suitable to leave your pup if you need to during the day. We also have a pup and 2 cats. Horse agistment is available.

Romantic getaway

Canberra region has huge range of wineries to tour and taste. Riverview Homestead has several wineries and grape plantings with easy reach. Local wineries have cellar door sales, and naturally Canberra is the cool climate wines capital.

Winter temperatures usually below 0 degrees.

Canberra is only a few hours drive from the snow, buses do take visitors on day trips to Threadbo and Mount Blue Cow etc There are also lots of indoor attractions in our Capital, i.e. War Memorial, Old and New Parliament House, Institute of Sport, National Art Gallery and Portrait Gallery, High Court, National Film and Sound Archives, Museum of Australia to name a few.
