Eco-friendly
Building designed along eco-lines, Building made from ecologically friendly materials, Bio-cycle or equivalent waste system., Bio-diverse setting, Ecological activities nearby, Ecological information and activities on site, Recycling facilities available.
We have built the Ecolodge using a number of recycled timber buildings - a church and two railway carriages and used recycled materials wherever possible. Much of our furniture has been made from trees which had to be felled on the property and we have planted hundreds to replace these. We have recycling of all kinds of wastes including onsite sewerage treatment. Each month we measure and seek to reduce water consumption by ourselves and our guests. We do not use chemical cleaners, fertilizers or insecticides. We support all ecotourism principles wherever possible. We buy local produce, support local workers and businesses. We have a small shop from where we sell artwork produced by local people and produce grown by local farmers. Virtually all of our business is conducted via email and the internet reducing the use of paper and other consumables. We have self guided tours of our organic orchard and bush food garden and our reforestation area. We have a greenhouse where we grow plants for further plantings of native trees and fruits indigenous to the area. We are planting pararistochlia vines to provide breeding grounds for the Richmond birdwing butterfly which is an endangered species. We seek to help educate our guests in those ways and offer them the opportunity of planting vines and natives trees on our property. We have been monitoring frog populations and reducing the number of toads with the help of some of our smaller guests who love to be involved in such things. We also contribute to other local environmental projects as they
occur.
