Accommodation and fine cuisine on the Gibb River Road, Kimberley, W.A.
Guest Comments: - No guest comment.
For fourteen years "Mount Hart Wilderness Lodge" has been renowned as a unique location on the Gibb River Road, with an emphasis on nature based experiences, old-fashioned bush hospitality and modern cuisine based on fresh, seasonal produce.
Located in the West Kimberley's wonderful "gorge country", we are open from April to November, catering to a maximum of 27 guests with a dinner, bed and breakfast package. Serviced daily, all rooms are well appointed with quality linen, toweling bathrobes, personal safes, and views of the well-established, tropical gardens. Both homesteads feature a comprehensive library, and shared guest laundry facilities.
We encourage stays of a minimum two nights duration, to enable guests to enjoy the magnificent scenery of the "King Leopold Range Conservation Park". Guests may take advantage of our self-guided nature walks, complete with complimentary maps and field notes, explore stunning gorges and remnant rainforest pockets, canoe down pandanus lined waterways, meet our three friendly dingoes, or simply relax and enjoy the licensed bar, tranquil homestead surrounds and warm, bush hospitality.
ActivitiesSwim and fish in the fresh water Barker River (at the bottom of the garden), stroll through eight acres of tropical heritage gardens, paddle the canoes past pandanus lined waterways, or simply read and relax in a hammock under our giant bamboo.
We also offer excellent bird-watching, painting and photographic opportunities.
Take a picnic to one of our numerous secluded picnic spots in our isolated gorges and waterholes (accessible only to overnight guests), then take one of our self-guided bush walks, or wander through Mt Hart's old cattle yards and the ruins of the original homestead.
From 2004, Broome Helicopters will be offering Scenic Flights from Mt Hart by luxury air-conditioned helicopter, to numerous spectacular and untouched Kimberley gorges, inaccessible, except by air.
In the cool evenings, relax at the "Three Dingoes Hotel" for icy cold beers and tall tales, as Taffy shares his vast knowledge of the settlement and exploration of this remote corner of Australia. AccommodationMount Hart Wilderness Lodge offers stylish and comfortable accommodation in either of two traditional "Kimberley Style" homesteads, both with wide verandahs and tropical roofs, and a two-bedroom cottage. Close to shared facilities, the dining room and licensed bar, all of our double or twin rooms feature quality linen, bathrobes, personal safes, fans and tropical garden views.
Hearty cooked breakfasts, and gourmet three-course dinners are served in the airy, tropical dining room, featuring Aboriginal and contemporary art. Breakfasts include Taffy's home-baked bread, home-made preserves, cereals, yogurt, fruit from our own orchard (in season), juices and a hearty choice of cooked breakfast. For lunches, guests have a choice of a buffet lunch in the dining room, featuring both hot and cold dishes, an antipasti platter in the bar, or a delicious picnic to take to one of the gorges.
In the evenings, dine with your hosts, enjoying home-made soups, a varying selection of main courses and exquisite desserts.
Special needs can be catered for with prior notice, and packed lunches may be arranged, if requested in advance. Tea, coffee and home-made biscuits are complimentary throughout the day.
We also have a public phone, and limited fax and guest internet facilities. AssociationsDerby Visitors Centre, Broome Visitors Centre, kununurra Visitors Centre, Northwest Tourism
