The building that houses the Bears at Geeveston was in the early days of the 20th century the old Commercial Bank & was for a considerable time the only bank in the southern Huon Valley. Since May 1998 it has undergone many other changes, the old banking hall is now the Guest dining area & Guest lounge. The theme of our Bed and Breakfast reflects our interest in bears and Teddy Bears - to wit we have named your accommodation after some of the great Teddy Bear Manufacturers of the early twentieth century ie: The Chiltern and The Steiff - both with their own ensuite - and the The Merrythoughts - which has a spa ensuite.The Milne room is our newest addition (Pooh Bear theme) and interconnects to the Merythoughts room for family accomodation. We offer dinner each evening from our seasonal menu & we are licensed

Our guest lounge is spacious and comfortable, featuring an area where you can relax or play cards, chess etc. We offer over 500 in house movie titles for your viewing pleasure or you can watch any number of various Austel Channels on the big screen in the TV area with a nightcap if you prefer.

DINING: We invite you to join us for dinner in our Fully Licensed Restaurant "The Contented Bear" every evening - all dishes are prepared with fresh ingredients & using as much local Tasmanian produce as available. Your Chef & Host David and Tess will cater for your every need including special dietary needs such as Colieac, Vegetarian, Vegan, Dairy and Lactose intolerent etc.
We also offer a good selection of Tasmanian and Australian Mainland wines so be sure to check them out!

Locality

The Bears is centrally located in Geeveston 50mtrs from the Post Office, a short drive takes you to the Highlands Salmon & Trout Fishery, then on to the Tahune Air Walk. Hastings Caves, the Thermal Pool & Glow Worm Caves are an easy 30 minutes scenic drive. We are very close to the magnificent Hartz Mountain National Park with its many beautiful bush walking tracks, from beginer to experienced bush walker (bush walking tours can be arranged).
In the Huon Valley there are several wineries which are always a pleasure to visit.
In Geeveston village we have the award winning Forest & Heritage Centre, this is a must visit.

Property / Pets

Geeveston & the Bears is an easy & relaxing 15 minute riverside drive south of Huonville. The region is a major cherry & apple growing area & is a successful & expanding wine producer, there are some superb Pinot Noirs almost on our doorstep.

WE ARE PET FRIENDLY - we can accommodate either inside or out depending on your Pet's wishes. We do however ask you to let us know at the time of booking if your best friend will be accompanying you!!
