If you are travelling between Hobart and Strahan or visa versa, Hamlet Downs is the perfect stopover to refresh you and your famiy or friends before proceeding. Relax, have a great meal using our own produce, enjoy a walk here or at the Russell Falls in the Mount Field National Park, or have a relaxing drink at the cafe next to the Tyenna River. Want some adventure, then we can book a trip to the fabulous lookout on top of the Eagles' Eyrie as part of the Maydena Adventure Hub activities or have a go on the Jet Boat on the Derwent River.

The property features lovely gardens and a 1.6 km walking track along our creek and around our dams specially designed to view platypus in the wild.

We offer a beautiful setting for your accommodation with options for self contained or hosted apartments, or for the discerning traveler, the complete dinner, bed and breakfast package. Light or cooked breakfasts and a dinner menu are available.

For something completely different, try our Greek dishes or better still have a Greek Feast with 3 courses of delicious authentic Mediterranean cuisine. Minimum of 2 persons and 24 hours notice required to prepare these special dishes.

For guests wanting Self Contained we can provide full breakfast provisions if required. There are no internal shared facilities and each group enjoys their own private suite with separate lounge and dining areas for each suite.

Locality


We are the perfect place to use as a base to explore our amazing Tyenna region and southern Tasmania. Only 10 minutes from Mt Field National Park which offers an extremely diverse range of attractions, like the world famous Russell Falls, Lake Dobson and the Tarn shelf. Also close by is the South West World Heritage area featuring Lake Pedder. Maydena and the Styx valley is also near by and is the home of the worlds tallest hardwood trees the Australian eucalyptus. Many other attractions are in this region of Southern Tasmania.

We are just 3 minutes from Southern Tasmania's premier trout fishing location the Tyenna river renowned for the size and quality of the fish caught. Excellent lake fishing can be had Lake Pedder and Lake Meadowbank.

For travellers interested in our local history we are close to the towns of Hamilton, New Norfolk and Bothwell with there many historic buildings. New Norfolk is largest town in the Derwent Valley commonly known as Southern Tasmania's Country Capital.

This property sleeps up to 9 adults in 4 bedrooms.

There are 2 units. The first unit has 3 bedrooms being a queen bedroom with ensuite, another queen bedroom and a room with two single beds. There is also an additional bathroom. Rooms in this unit may be booked individually. Once a room is booked however, the other 2 rooms are closed so that guests have privacy. This unit has a full sized kitchen and wood fire as well as electric heating.

The second separate unit has a King bed with ensuite as well as a foldout sofa. It also has its own lounge/dining area and individual entrance. This unit has no cooking facilities apart from microwave oven, toaster, cutlery, crockery and kettle. This room is airconditioned and has great views to the ponds and fields.

A portacot when available, may be hired for a small fee.
