Cottage, Bed & Breakfast

Stone Stream cottage is nestled on a hillside just metres from Eve creek, one of the many streams on our 400-acre property. The property is mainly native forest, most of which is rainforest. Thus, bird watching & wildlife spotting is unavoidable, and a visit to our stand of giant Tallowood trees is a must.
Built in 2008, powered by wind & solar, the ECO cottage has a fresh and cosy feel. Big queen bed, bath & bathrobes, lush linen and comfy lounge chairs. Plus, you'll have all the supplies you need to prepare a scrumptious cooked breakfast including:- eggs from our own free range chooks, and herbs picked fresh from the garden. For all other meals you can self-cater in the little country style kitchen, which has a full size gas stove/oven & a gas BBQ on the Veranda. OR, you can dine with us up the road at Barefoot Falls.

Locality

Stone stream is situated in Brooklana on the lush Eastern Dorrigo Plateau. 26 km NE of the picturesque mountain village of Dorrigo, with its World Heritage Rainforest Centre and sky walk ... All Free! Dorrigo township is dotted with art, craft and great cafes.
In the opposite direction we are 50 km west of Coffs Harbour and the stunning Solitary Island Marine Park, Whale Watching & beachside life style.

Property

Our carbon neutral site is 400 acres bounded by National Parks and NSW State Forests. There are two lots. One known as, Barefoot Falls, which is fully timbered combination of rain and native forest. Here we have our hand built, Asian inspired, home nestled deep within the rainforest. The adjoining lot is Stone Stream, and it is a combination of native and rainforest. It also has 75 acres of cleared pasture for the small herd of 35 cattle that came with the property.

It is totally self sufficent in terms of electricity, water and waste.
It is not connected to any public suppliers.
As well as onsite solar there ia a wind turbine for power generation.
LED and energy effecient lighting.
ECO loo - elegant, in-bathroom, waterless composting toilet from "Nature Loo".
Rainwater collected and treated onsite.
Instantaneous hot water.
Filtered, non chemically treated drinking water.
Refillable and reusble containers used for food and hygiene products.
Linen & towels washed and ironed at Barefoot Falls (the main house),
which which is 100% powered by an onsite Micro Hydro Electric Scheme, and then line dried.
The property adjoins Dorrigo World Heritage National Park and Cascade National Park.
A program of incremental ecological changes has been implemented to convert the once operating dairy farm into a more sustainable property. This includes a program to fence the waterways from cattle. Less than 20% of the property is used for free range grass fed cattle with the remainder managed as land for wildlife. Onsite walks through Rainforest and Wet Sclerophyll Forest are available from your doorstep.
All Eco infrastructure has been implemented onsite by the owners and guided presentations are welcomed on request.
