Holiday house

Nestled in a sea-front property behind a private garden, the Cottage Retreat fronts onto Darwin's Esplanade and harbour providing guests with a private haven with immediate access to the city.

Designed in the tradition of 19th century north Australian architectural style, the cottage is built of sandstone, corrugated iron and surrounded by spacious timber, latticed verandas.

In 2010, the Cottage Retreat underwent a complete interior renovation under the supervision of Darwin-based interior designer Joe Librio. The result is a blend of tropical minimalism effortlessly seamed with its heritage past.

The main floor living area leads into a formal dining room, a fully-equipped gourmet kitchen with Miele appliances and an exterior sun-room that opens onto a private walled garden. Wide, wooden decks surround the ground level providing the perfect spot for private relaxation, grilling and entertaining.

Upstairs, there are three bedrooms each one individually furnished to create comfort with attention to relaxation, privacy and pleasing aesthetic style. Like the ground level, all bedrooms lead onto to large wooden verandas with sea views across Darwin harbour.

The Cottage Retreat contains natural, minimalist furnishings complemented with art and crafts collected from North and West Africa, the Americas, Central and South East Asia and the Pacific region. Further complementing the modern exterior is a collection of gallery-framed photos collected in New York City.
