Holiday house

Creatively designed by MacKenzie/Bremner, Architects/Interior Designers, on the beachside property that was once Arthur Boyd's, Sur le Sable is our family holiday home we would like to share with you. Come see the painting platform from which he created his masterpieces.

The house has been designed to be filled with light and colour, capturing glorious views of the ocean, the beach and headlands to the east; and to the west views of the waterways of the Crookhaven River and the mountains beyond.

4 Double bedrooms with large deck that opens out to the sanddunes, 2 large balconies, a well-equipped stainless steel kitchen with Ilve/Asko appliances, 2 modern bathrooms and a hot outdoor shower, a Weber gas BBQ, gas indoor heating are but a few of the inbuilt features of the house.

Upstairs are 2BR with Queen beds, bathroom, bar and 2 balconies - one perfect for breakfast looking out to sea and the other just as perfect for afternoon martinis watching the sunset.

Downstairs are 2BR with Double beds, bathroom/laundry, living area and a large wraparound deck, secluded by a stand of teatrees. Here, you can step out on the sand, over a sanddune and onto the beach

Locality

CULBURRA SHOPS 2 mins drive from Sur le Sable include a Foodworks grocery store (opens until 5 in winter and 6 in summer), hardware store (opens until 1 on Sundays), Culburra Bowling club with Chinese restaurant, post office, numerous cafes, art gallery, surf shop, video rentals and drive-in bottle shop.
2 petrol stations open 7 days until 7pm.

Eating Places
Beach Eats on the Culburra shopping strip serves great breakfasts and coffee.
For casual meals, there are the local Chinese and Pizzeria also on the shopping strip.
Great fish and chips can be had at Greenwell Point (where you can also get fresh local fish)
The Butter Factory at 731 Greenwell Pt Rd Pyree (8mins) offers lunch and dinner Wed-Sun
For our absolute favourite coffee, breakfast, lunch, breads and cakes, you need to travel 1/2hr to Berry Sourdough Bakery - open 8-4 Wed-Sun.

Arthur Boyd’s art centre on Bundanon Rd, off Illaroo Rd is open Sundays only.

Property

* Swimming - right at your front door! and in summer, there are 2 patrolled beaches; one at Tilbury Cove on the southern end of Culburra beach and the other at Warrain beach, on the opposite side of the peninsula

* Surfing - both Culburra and Warrain are great surfing beaches and Culburra has a surf school if you’re up for lessons
* Fishing - beach fishing in front of the house; rock fishing is popular at both points.
* Boating - the boat ramp just a few minutes down the road from Sur le Sable at the mouth of the Crookhaven River for you to explore the waterways of the Shoalhaven and Crookhaven Rivers or out to the open sea
* Cycling - Culburra is flat and there is a cycle track that meanders around both beaches to the Lighthouse taking in Curley’s Bay and Woolumboola Lake
* The lakes are short walks away and offer birdwatching and walking around the mudflats
* Dolphin watching is a daily activity from the beachside balcony and the main bedroom. In the winter months, you can also follow the migrating whales, best seen with a pair of binoculars.

* Walking - 2 easy beach walks from the house. Walking north from the beach will take you to a rock platform where you will see some steps that will take you to the lighthouse. Magnificent views of Orient Point and Greenwell Point townships at the mouth of the Crookhaven River are a highlight. 1hour’s round trip.
* The walk south takes you around Penguin’s Head to Warrain beach. You may return via Penguin’s Head Rd after you reach the Surf Club or continue along Warrain beach until you reach Wollumboola Lake which is well worth exploring. Over 11/2 to 2 hours round trip.


* Take the car ferry to Comerong Island (turn right on the road to Terrara)

* JERVIS BAY NATIONAL PARK - The edge of National Park abuts Culburra township. The main entrance to the NP is 1/2 hour away. The townships of Currarong, Callala, Vincentia and Huskisson are nearby. Brochures and books at the house
