Abacus At Bright is for adults who want to holiday in total luxury in one of the most picturesque towns in Victoria.
Your comfort has been our sole aim – from king size beds to full air conditioning; dishwashers to DVD; full gourmet kitchen to state of the art bathroom – everything is provided for your indulgence.
Each cottage has its own professionally landscaped fully fenced private garden solely for your use.
The tranquil Ovens River and all its riverside walks are a stones throw away. You are a gentle 5 minute walk to the shops and restaurants of Bright. All this in a peaceful country environment
We travel extensively and this is one of the best – certainly the best we have ever stayed in when traveling in rural Victoria. Everything is there that you need – and all brand new and spotlessly clean.. It is tastefully done and has a really great feel to it. It is so easy to get to the river and town is literally 5 minutes walk way. Quiet luxury – and with your own fully fenced private garden. Very well done.

LocalityThings To Do
SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE IN BRIGHT
Bright is a town for four seasons and has something special to offer at any time of the year.
All seasons in Bright are wonderful for walking. One of the best things about our properties, apart from the peace and comfort, is the proximity to the river and all the lovely riverside walks. The walks go for miles and we give you a complete list of them and how to access them starting right from your own back gate.
In the winter months the air is crisp and invigorating. The Abacus Cottages have reverse cycle air conditioning (both heating and cooling) to keep you toasty warm. All beds have electric blankets and all rooms are fully insulated with lovely thick curtains to keep out the cold.
In winter skiing is the obvious pursuit. If you’re not a skier a visit to the snow just to build a snowman might be on the agenda.
Mt Buffalo and Mt Hotham are about 45 minutes away and Falls Creek about 75 minutes away.
Autumn has the magnificent Autumn Festival known Australia wide. The colours of the multitude of European trees as they change hue for winter are absolutely splendid. People come from all over Australia to see the Ovens Valley garbed in magnificent autumn tones. Our own gardens put on their own show at this time and are truly lovely.
Spring is clean, bright and fresh. The river is flowing with melted snow, the bulbs are all out, the birds are twittering as they build their nests. It’s all happy and new. Bushwalking on Mt Buffalo is fantastic at this time – to see all the new life popping out after their winter rest.
Summer – swim in the river, BBQ on your own private deck, eat in your own fully fenced garden eating area – or just sit back and relax in your luxury fully air conditioned cottage PropertyIf wining and dining is your cup of tea then Bright is for you. It is located on the North East Gourmet Trail – the town and the district abounds in wineries and top class restaurants. There are 3 Chefs Hatted Restaurants in the area – Simones (2 Chefs Hats) is within easy walking distance 5 minutes away.
The wineries and restaurants of Milawa, Beechworth and Rutherglen are all just a day trip away. In fact you pass many of them on the way here.
If you wish to catch your own dinner, the Ovens River is virtually at your back doorstep. Trout are often caught by our guests and cooked for their supper. Alternatively you can go to one of the nearby Fish Farms and make a picnic day of it. We tell you which ones have magnificent gardens to provide the perfect setting for your picnic away. You can even get them to catch your fish for you and clean it – if you prefer to think your fish died of natural causes.
If history is of interest to you, a fantastic day trip to Beechworth with its Ned Kelly connections is a must for you. Take a walking tour or just mooch around yourself and soak up the history. There is also charming Yackandandah to visit on the way there or back – this is definitely the village that time forgot.
Bike Riding is a delight along the Murray to Mountains Rail Trail. Bright is in the Top 5 Destinations for bike riders in Australia.
To get the adrenaline going you can go tandem paragliding or hang gliding – Mt Buffalo is the paragliding capital of Australia. Paragliding and Hang Gliding World Championships are held here regularly. Details are in your cottage.
You can do a helicopter or micro light ride over Mt Buffalo.
You can play golf, pan for gold – you name it, Bright has it.
And best of all – you can just relax!
