HOLIDAY HOUSE ON BRIBIE ISLAND - GREAT FOR FAMILIES, CHILDREN & PETS
4 guest comments - average rating is: 5 out of 5
Lyrebird Cottage Holiday House on Bribie Island is a great little getaway. The house is airconditioned and has a TV, video, DVD, playstation (on request-small fee) and a well stacked bookshelf of interesting books and DVDs. Also there is a doll's house and some little kid's toys and games.
You can walk or ride to the jetty at Bongaree and the beautiful 'Brennan Park' on the beach.
The house is just around the corner from the new Aldi store and within walking distance of the Bribie Shopping Centre where there is Woolworths, Target and a heap of specialty stores. And you can bring your pets - the back yard is fully fenced. There are many dog friendly beach not far from the house.
There is a washing machine and BBQ; undercover for 1 car but plenty of room for extra cars, boat, caravan. And a lockable large shed.
Bring your own food from home or you can shop at the local IGA, Woolworths, Aldi or you can dine out at the many restaurants, clubs and take-a-ways.
We don't usually charge a cleaning fee so we require you to leave the house the same way you found it - clean, neat and tidy (use the vacuum and broom) - otherwise a $55 fee will be charged.
If you haven't already been to Bribie Island you simply MUST. It is an absolute paradise - undeveloped and unspoilt. It has a relaxed atmosphere and lifestyle which creates a haven for holiday makers, commuters, residents and retirees alike.
You WILL relax here.
There is a surf beach on one side and the quiet waters of the Pumicestone Passage on the other. A great place for kids ... bring your bikes, surf ski, kite.
You cross the bridge and see a Pelican on every light pole and dolphins feeding.
LocalityKilometres of white sandy beaches, surrounded by sparkling blue water, and just one hour's drive from Brisbane - that's Bribie!
The Island is 35km long and approx 7km wide with five small townships close to the southern tip, and the island is a flora and fauna reserve and the Pumicestone Passage is a marine reserve.
Bribie Island is the only Queensland island connected to the mainland by a bridge.
Bribie is only a 30minute drive to Australia Zoo and the Glasshouse Mountains, and not much further to the Sunshine Coast and it’s hinterland towns such as Maleny. And for the history buffs there is the Caboolture Historical Village and there’s the Abbey Museum which houses an amazing collection of artefacts and art from all around the world, and hosts a Medieval Festival each year in June. You might even want to try ‘gliding’ at the Caboolture airport.
With a permit you can drive a 4WD on the beach from one end of the island to other. Bribie is the closest place to Brisbane to experience driving on the beach. A short detour inland reveals pristine freshwater lagoons, wallum scrub and exotic wetland habitat. At the northern end of the island lie the ruins of historic Fort Bribie which formed part of Australia’s line of defence against invasion during World War II.
It is a great place for riding your bike and the little kids love the beaches along the Pumicestone Passage. Bring your fishing rod and catch whiting, brim or flathead; bring your golf clubs. You can hire a boat, go birdwatching, learn to surf, kayak, or go on a cruise, plus much more. Bring hats and plenty of sunscreen as you will be outside the whole time. RELAX ...There’s everything you’ll need … Unique Movie cinemas, Restaurants, Coffee Shops, Pizza/Chinese & Seafood Takeaways, Woolworths, Target, Aldi, IGA, RSL, Bowls Clubs, Surf Club, Aquatic Centre, Activities and concerts in the beautiful park. It is straight across the Bay (Moreton Bay) from Scarborough/Redcliffe …and just east of Caboolture. You can see Moreton Island from Bribie's southern end!
Due to these restrictions on development and population limits, Bribie Island will maintain its unique seaside village atmosphere - no traffic lights, no high-rise buildings.
People are soooo friendly and wave to you … and it is very quiet – not crowded at all. There is often a market on in a park on Sundays. And the community art gallery is quite impressive. Whilst there is a lot to do and explore you can also RELAX here … the kids will love it.
