The Historic Old Courthouse of Araluen built in 1886 is located in the beautiful and peaceful Araluen Valley, surrounded by 360 degree mountains.

Today it is a resort style Bed & Breakfast with modern facilities such as guest kitchen, swimming pool, a hot spa under the stars and tennis court.

Relax in the beautiful gardens,on the veranda or by the open fires, reading a book or watching a DVD in your room chosen from our extensive DVD library.

Ideal for a group of up to 11 people.

Take those long country walks spellbound by the beauty of the valley. Stroll down to the local pub. Spend the night in a comfortable old jail cell with your own ensuite and view of the garden. The facilities in each guest room include DVD player, mini fridge, hairdryer, tea & coffee making, overhead fan and heater, iron and ironing board.

New guest kitchen in the original gold store and provisions room for self contained flexibility. We'll do your grocery shopping if you wish. Large oven, cooktop and fridge. Microwave, all crockery and cutlery.

If you want to be spoilt, then dining is an experience at the Old Courthouse, with candlelight dinners, served in the dining room in front of an open fire during winter, or on the front veranda in summer if you prefer. Dinner is by arrangement and we tailor meals to your individual tastes. We offer one to three course meals ($30 to $50), followed by complimentary tea/coffee & port.

We don't charge corkage for bringing your own alcohol. We can also supply our own if you prefer. We love the challenge of preparing meals for children, who often have fussy tastes.

A hot english style breakfast is included in our tariff and includes cereal, bacon, eggs, tomato, mushroom, juice and fruit. Also toast, tea (herbal available) and coffee.

Location

Araluen is a former gold mining town, situated 25km south of Braidwood, just over 1 hr from Canberra. Goulburn & Batemans Bay and 3 hours from Sydney.

Known today for its peaches, Araluen is easily assessible from the scenic and sealed Araluen Road.

Architectural history

The Historic Old Courthouse is a Victorian period quadruple brick building. A fine example of early Australian architecture, it was built in 1886 when the gold rush of Araluen was at its full glory.
Today the Old Courthouse in on 10 acres. Two lock-up cells and heavy iron doors, as well as the prisoner exercise yard, stand as a reminder of those bygone days of the gold rush era of Araluen.

The building is quadruple brick with bricks fired in the valley because of the difficulty of transporting bricks down a very steep mountain to Araluen.
