Overlooking sun-kissed paddocks, natural bushland and the mighty Stirling Range, is Kendenup Lodge and Cottages, one of the Great Southern's premier hosted accommodation properties. Located 30 minutes north of Albany and a cork's throw from the award winning wine country of Mount Barker, Kendenup Lodge and Cottages is a place to relax, unwind and escape the everyday. A private chef and butler are on call for personal pampering, while corporate groups enjoy quality conference facilities and function rooms. Accommodation at Kendenup Lodge and Cottages is suited to couples, families and corporate groups. Ultimate luxury is on offer at the Cottage of Indulgence, where a private spa and personalised service make it popular with couples. The Family Cottage sleeps up to six people. With kitchen, TV, DVD and a host of other facilities, this is a great escape for families or friends. The Lodge caters for corporate groups wanting an overnight stay. Kendenup Lodge and Cottages lively annual event calendar includes a bridal expo, art trail, jazz night, and AFL Grand Final and Melbourne Cup Luncheons. Owners Linda and Rod Harris dreamed of creating a place of peace, where visitors could rejuvenate and indulge amid stunning natural surroundings. They pictured themselves sipping red wine on the verandah and gazing at the view of the Stirling Range with their dog, Jess, at their feet. In 1998, Linda and Rod turned their backs on city life, moved into an onsite caravan, and got to work on bringing their vision to reality. In 1999, the property opened for business with one cottage available to rent. Nearly ten years later their original dream has been surpassed. Two cottages, a lodge, two function centres, a licensed bar, full catering, gymnasium, spa and steam room make the property one of the most successful in the region.

Style and Individuality

An entrepreneurial and creative approach has seen Kendenup Lodge and Cottages become one of the best known and most successful accommodation houses in the area. Linda likes to offer guest experiences that are fresh, new and unique. Corrugated iron, raw hard wood posts, and touches of Australiana throughout make the Lodge a unique setting for corporate days and functions.
While other properties in the area offer bed and breakfast options, Kendenup Lodge and Cottages is the only operation to provide self catering accommodation. The range of accommodation available is another unique aspect that sets the property apart from its competitors. Offering the choice of family, indulgent, or lodge-style rooms, means a variety of requirements are catered for.
By far the most striking feature of the property is the commanding views of the Stirling Range and its proximity to this significant natural attraction. Sitting across golden paddocks, the range rises majestically from the horizon and is reason enough for visiting the property. Collect a picnic hamper from the Lodge Hall and spend a day in the great outdoors. Home to no less than 1500 species of plants, 87 of which are unique to the area, the Stirling Range lies within one of the country’s most precious national parks. Walk trails, mountain hiking, wildflower gazing and bird watching are just some of the activities available. Kendenup Lodge and Cottages is happy to provide advice on the best places for each.
The property is a great place to explore other attractions including natural and gourmet treasures in the region. The following activities are easily accessible:
Whale watching cruises from Albany
Pat a joey kangaroo at nearby Uralla Roo Park
Dive on scuttled navy ship, HMAS Perth
Sample fresh local produce and award winning wines at one of the local wineries

Country Hospitality

Country style hospitality: Yarn-spinning with friends around an open campfire at dusk on a cool evening is just one of the many guest experiences that make help Kendenup Lodge and Cottages such a special place.

For overseas visitors this could easily be a once in a lifetime thrill. Aussie bush barbecues are on offer, or local character Charlie Hicks is available to fire up a lamb on the spit and entertain guests with his engaging, down to earth style.

Activities: A wood-fired pizza oven and two outdoor entertainment areas for guests create hubs of activity for those wanting to socialise. Kids will love the chance to catch yabbies from the dam on the top paddock and then learn how to turn them into a mouth-watering meal. Or perhaps you want to go up-market? A personalised dinner service including white linen, stylish crystal and crockery – all served under soft lantern lighting creates a night to remember.

Lodge Lounge: Always in view, the Stirling Range reveals another angle to its beauty from the verandah of the Lodge Lounge. This is also a great place to enjoy a drink with friends at the licensed bar, a meal in the Lodge Hall, or a self indulgent wallow in one of the comfy armchairs by the log fire.

Mountain Bikes: After all this glorious local food, guests may be in need of a leg-stretch. Four mountain bikes are free for guest use. A 10km ride around the 40 hectare property, a 7km ride into Kendenup, or an hour long ride to the Stirling Range make for energetic holiday activities.

Local Tourism Information: All guest rooms include a package of local maps and brochures, detailing the activities and attractions available nearby including a kangaroo wildlife park, wineries and access to the Stirling Range. Linda and Rod are also available to provide advice, suggestions and make arrangements for activities. Picnic hampers can be supplied to make a day-out something special. In coming months a new coach will be acquired to cater for the growing demand for organised day trips.
